womens reproductive healthHere in the west we tend to take womens reproductive health for granted to some extent. After all, we have access to the best medicine and doctors, so if a woman should suffer a womens reproductive health issue, there's every reason to believe it will be quickly and easily resolved. The instance of women dying in childbirth, for example, is so rare in western nations these days that my mind automatically links maternal mortality with women in 19th century novels or period drama movies. Sadly, the womens reproductive health issue if maternal mortality is still prevalent in less fortunate parts of the world. If you're born in a developing country in Africa, there is a distinct possibility that you might not make it through the experience of childbirth. This is a very unsettling thought. It makes me appreciate living in a developed country where there are often solutions to womens reproductive health issues. It also causes me to contemplate the fact that there is so much inequality and injustice in the world. I would love to see a day when women in all nations, not just those that are rich, enjoy reproductive health.
